Can we just be honest for a minute? Is this you?
Some days I look around at my life and think... is this it? Not in a dramatic way. "I just don't really know who I am at the moment."
The kids don't need me the way they used to. My parents need me more than they used to.
I'm knackered even when I've slept. I walk into a room and completely forget what I went in for. And don't even get me started on my libido, one minute it's there, the next it's just... gone. Who knew?!
If you're nodding along, …..
This is what nobody tells you about being in your late 40s or 50s
.
We get told about periods, we get told about pregnancy but Perimenopause creeps in and suddenly you're forgetful, exhausted, irritable, and your body doesn't feel like your own. Maybe you're on HRT and it's helping a bit, or maybe you're still figuring out if you even want to be. Either way, it's a lot to carry quietly.
And it's not just the hormones. It's everything happening at once:
You're not falling apart. You're just doing about six huge life things at the same time, with no manual, while everyone assumes you're fine because you always have been.
You don't have to have it all figured out, and you definitely don't have to pretend you're fine. Feeling fed up, flat, or a bit lost right now doesn't mean something's wrong with you. It means you're human, going through a genuinely huge transition that barely anyone talks about honestly.
This is exactly why I do what I do. I'm not sitting here with a textbook telling you it's "just hormones." I'm in my 50s too. I get the brain fog, the exhaustion, the empty-nest wobble, the ageing-parent guilt, the libido vanishing act all of it. When you talk to someone who's actually lived it, it just feels different. You don't have to explain the basics. You can just say how you're really feeling and be met with "I hear you".
No. It's not "it." It's a messy, confusing, very real chapter in a womans life and it's one you don't have to sit through on your own. If you think talking to someone who gets exactly what this stage of life feels like, would help please book a free first session.
